Paganini's Violin “The Cannon”
Special Note(s) for this photograph: The “flamed-maple” used on “The Cannon” (almost horizontal stripes, lower at the center, higher at the edges) is shallower and narrower than most violins by Joseph Guarneri “Del Jesu.” Also notice the reflection of the purfling channel (or scooping) around the top of the back. While it is narrower than most of Stradivari's instruments, most “copyists” exaggerate it until it is “too” narrow, or “pinched.”
